Phone +61 7 3890 0800

Our most helpful contact is Allan Colless. E-mail allan@collessyoung.com.au

Allan can quote on Containers, Flat-Rack and Ro-Ro to almost anywhere. He will also research the best rate from a number of shipping companies.

RoRo shipment from Brisbane to Kobe Japan - 2023:

Preparing the vehicle for shipping:

The main fuel tank of Diesel should be below 1/4 full.

The vehicle when loaded will be electrically isolated. I am unsure if the shipping will isolate the house batteries.

All combustibles should be removed eg Petrol, Metho/denatured alcohol, LPG etc.

Gas bottles are NOT allowed

Remove the Fire Extinguisher

The vehicle should be respectably clean.

RoRo requires NO PERSONAL effects in the vehicle as the shipping company is concerned about theft. It is impossible for an Overland vehicle, however in our case the living module is separated from the vehicle cabin via a locked door. We also have two hidden compartments below the bed where all our cooking equipment, cloths, coffee maker etc and items from the front cabin are out of sight. NOTE: this is for theft reasons not for concealment from customs etc ( I have made a complete list of everything inside that will be attached to the un-accompanied baggage declaration on the inbound flight ie vehicle and contents)

This information I received:

We do not accept any used vehicles that are Electric, Hybrid Propulsion Types, have non-original/modified fuel systems; any Liquid or pressurized gas fuel systems (HYD/LPG/LNG); or Decommissioned/wrecked units (units that has been heavily damaged and deemed a total loss by an insurance company, and listed as wrecks, total loss, salvage title, and similar).

Additionally, we do not accept any internal/personal items inside vehicles. Please note that we reserve the right to reject cargo for loading if internal items are identified.

Vehicles must be in good, self-drivable condition with steering, brakes and engine in good, mechanical order.

Please note that all used vehicles or POV’s will have their batteries disconnected once loaded on board. They will be reconnected at destination during discharge operations.

However on delivery to the Port of Brisbane no such check was undertaken on our vehicle.

Pre- Loading:

The port is a security area and there are a number security procedures.

In Brisbane you will be loading with Australian Amalgamated Terminals: https://www.aaterminals.com.au/location-fisherman/

You will have to create an account and login at : https://www.userlogin.com.au/aat/login.php

Once logged in, you will have to complete a  General Site Induction - it takes about 20 minutes and you will be issued a ‘Statement of Completion”

Note the instructions here for an AAT FI Export Cargo Receival Requirements.pdf

You can check on the ship arrival and departure on the AATerminals web site under UPDATES is a berthing schedule

It is also wise to check on the shipping companies site - in my case Hoegh Autoliners

https://www.hoeghautoliners.com/sailing-schedule

You can see ship arrival/departure of the ships travel and particularly the ETA into Brisbane and ETA at the next ports. From this information you can book flights/accomodation etc....BUT be aware at 2023 shipping was delayed everywhere. The Hoegh Jacksonville was delayed in Melbourne for 2 weeks, Port Kembla for 3 days and left Brisbane 2 days late !!!

The entire process was more than 1 month late.

The forwarding company ( in our case Colless Young) will advise of paperwork to complete and also when the vehicle should be at the port.

You will need:

A cargo marking sheet provided by the agent  like this - attached to Windscreen & LH side window

The Completed Form: Export Receival Advice - .pdf check that the CAN - Customs Authority Number is on this form

A completed Certification of Use Mobile Machinery.pdf

A copy of your site induction

Instructions in the vehicle how to start and stop the vehicle !!

ID with photograph / Credit Card / HiVis vest

This is the information I received directly from AAT

Thank you for your phone call. I’ve attached a copy of The Export Receival Requirements which does have some slightly outdated information. The current MSIC escort fee is $121.55 ($133.71 including GST). We can pre-arrange payment via bank transfer or credit card beforehand or we can do it upon your arrival. Your motorhome will need a clear cargo marking sheet and we need an Export Receival Advice “ERA” to process the cargo.

Further to our conversation you will be able to access our berthing and R and D Schedule via the following link. AAT Documents – AAT (aaterminals.com.au). This will give you updated information as to when receivals will be open for the Hoegh Jacksonville. As spoken about before you will need appropriate PPE and you have already completed the site induction. Apart from that there shouldn’t be anything else required for your visit and as always if there are any other queries feel free to contact us via phone or the @ClerksFIDG email.

At the Port of Brisbane present your self and vehicle with the above documents at the building on the left of the gate at Berth 3, Port Drive, Port of Brisbane

The charge of $133.71 was for a 200m drive inside the control area - escorting the vehicle to the marked position for loading !!!

That is the Hoegh Jacksonville in the background

Post-Loading:

Once sailed you can check on your shipment under ‘My Cargo’ by using the VIN Number or Bill of Lading

Paperwork:

Once the ship has sailed you will then receive your BILL OF LADING.  These are the shipping documents showing the ship and your cargo details. It will also have the agent contact details at the receiving port. If you do not have a preferred agent in the foreign port Colless Young can arrange with one of their contacts to process the clearance the other end.

If your vehicles is being shipped under a Carnet de Passage either Colless Young can process this or you can take this along with your Bill of Lading for signing off to AUSTRALIAN CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION Offices at 20 - 22 The Circuit  Brisbane Airport  BRISBANE QLD 4007 Telephone: 1300 558 287.

Bill of Lading must be E-mailed to your Import Customs receiving agent at the destination port and the Carnet either send by secure means or hand carry it with you.

Shipping to Kobe Japan - April 2023

Sailing time is 14 days to Brisbane to Kobe Japan

The cost  A$11,684

That was a lot more than quoted 9 months ago at $4,600 the then 4 months ago at $5,230.

The actual cost was a lot more, and that decision was based on the final carrier availability and timing.

We are already 45 days late, and waiting for a ‘cheap’ fare meant missing the spring and at the end of the journey - 4 months later - in peak summer with biting insects etc.

For 4 months travel it is still economical  if one compares to a luxury holidays for example:

13-DAY ANTARCTIC EXPLORER Fare: From $16,995 per person
