Before any major international trip it’s always best to travel locally to sort out any issues. This trip, apart from a holiday/adventure is to address this issue.
I have modified a number of items in and on the vehicle since the last 130,000km trip including increasing the fuel capacity to 300Lts, added a front Detroit locker, and reconfigured some of the inside.
After 4 days we have 46 items to attend to. Most are very small, like add an extra towel rail, through to, the fuel tank registers empty yet 75 litres remain !
To bounce the truck around we take the back roads north to Mareeba.
Corrugations, dirt roads and farm tracks.
Remote bush camps and we are surrounded by the noise of Black Cockatoos.
Porcupine Gorge National Park north of Hughenden, worth the visit and the walk down to the river.
This Black Ironbark and Ghost Gum intertwined can could only think of the Beatles song
“Living in Harmony”
Undara Lava Tubes.
Kalkani Crater, one of the many extinct volcanoes that are in the area.
One of the ‘must do’ on a trip to the Cape is a massive Archer Burger !
Base Camp for the next couple of weeks - Bramwell Homestead.
The Pyramid/Porcupine Gorge
